Process collage of how yesterday’s #inktober #lettering (most/all my letterings actually) came to life.
1. (TL) Thumbnail sketches to get started. Small scale sketch(es) to quickly decide where everything will go. Tough part is leaving out details at that stage.
2. (BL) Then the bulk of the work, a pencil sketch to draw the letters and other elements cleanly. Lots of erasing/redrawing to make sure everything is where it needs to be, in the right spot.
3. (TR) Time to get permanent and ink the contours. All the design choices should have been made with the pencil. It’s now mostly a matter of being super cautious and focused tracing over it.
4. (BR) Last step is finishing the sketch: filling the areas that need to, drawing texture on the letters and adjusting the line weights so everything looks coherent.
